In his book The Blind Watchmaker, evolutionist Richard Dawkins claimed, “The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is at bottom no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind pitiless indifference“ (p. 133).
Nothing could be further from the truth! The evidence for creation is clear (Romans 1:18-20). We are not the product of blind evolutionary forces over “millions of years”, and we are not just animals — we are wonderfully created in the image of God, and every human life is precious to him (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13-16).

The timeline graphic created below captures the central message of the Bible, beginning with God’s perfect creation:

God is good. In the beginning he created a PERFECT WORLD, without millions of years of “evolution“. There was no sin, no death, no suffering, no pain. “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good…” (Genesis 1:31). Adam and Eve, created with a free will, enjoyed a perfect love relationship with God in the Garden of Eden.

Sin and death and suffering only came about through the rebellion of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3; Romans 5:12). The plant kingdom was corrupted by thorns and thistles, certain creatures in the animal kingdom became carnivorous, and Adam and Eve became separated from God. To this day, the world we live is a BROKEN WORLD.
As descendants of Adam we are all born separated from God, with a sin nature and a tendency to go our own way (Romans 3:23; Proverbs 20:9). We are also born with a conscience, understanding right from wrong and the concept that actions have consequences — sin must be judged.

But God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love (Psalm 103:8-13) and ready to forgive us if we repent and place our trust in him, because in love he himself bore the punishment for our sins on the cross (Isaiah 53:5-6). If we embrace the message of the cross we can be reconciled to God (2 Cor 5:18-6:2), and we may look forward to a RESTORED WORLD, even better than it was in the beginning…
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4).

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Of course, if we try to add millions of years of death and suffering and evolution to this timeline, then the Bible’s PERFECT WORLD foundation for understanding the cross breaks down.

The apostle Paul preached a simple message: “I preached that they should (1) repent and (2) turn to God and (3) demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.” (Acts 26:20).
(1) “REPENT” To repent means to turn away from your sin and from doing things your own way. “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2).
(2) “TURN TO GOD” When we make the decision to turn away from sin and self once and for all, we turn toward God and determine to submit to his will for our lives from now on.
(3) “DEMONSTRATE THEIR REPENTANCE BY THEIR DEEDS” The fruits of true repentance are demonstrated by such things as:
- A desire to read God’s word and learn from him. Purchase a Bible in a clear, reliable translation, like The New International Version or the New Living Translation. Read it daily and, with God’s grace, put it into practice.
- A desire to pray. Reading the Bible is God talking to you; prayer is you talking to God. Pray continually.
- A desire to fellowship with other Christians. Find a solid, Bible-believing church through which you can serve God, serve others, grow in grace, and flourish in your faith.
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:20
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9—10
