The timeline graphic created below captures the central message of the Bible, beginning with God’s perfect creation:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

The apostle Paul preached a simple message: “I preached that they should (1) repent and (2) turn to God and (3) demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.” (Acts 26:20).

(1) “REPENT” To repent means to turn away from your sin and from doing things your own way. “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2).

(2) “TURN TO GOD” When we make the decision to turn away from sin and self once and for all, we turn toward God and determine to submit to his will for our lives from now on.

(3) “DEMONSTRATE THEIR REPENTANCE BY THEIR DEEDS” The fruits of true repentance are demonstrated by such things as:

  • A desire to read God’s word and learn from him. Purchase a Bible in a clear, reliable translation, like The New International Version or the New Living Translation. Read it daily and, with God’s grace, put it into practice.
  • A desire to pray. Reading the Bible is God talking to you; prayer is you talking to God. Pray continually.
  • A desire to fellowship with other Christians. Find a solid, Bible-believing church through which you can serve God, serve others, grow in grace, and flourish in your faith.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:20

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9—10
